Bone Grafting

What is Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that adds bone tissue to your jaw. This can be done using your bone (autogenous bone graft) or bone from a donor (allograft). The grafted bone stimulates your body to produce new bone cells, filling in the gaps and increasing bone density.

Missing teeth not only affect your smile but can also lead to jawbone deterioration. When bone loss occurs in the jaw, it can hinder the successful placement of dental implants . This is where bone grafting comes in – a surgical procedure that adds bone volume and density to the jaw, creating a strong foundation for dental implants.

Elite Dental Tours Offers Major and Minor
Bone Grafting Procedures

Minor Bone Grafting: These procedures address smaller areas of bone loss and can often be done in conjunction with dental implant placement.

Major Bone Grafting: For significant bone loss or complex cases, major bone grafting procedures may be required. These procedures utilize bone from your own body (hip, tibia) or a donor source to rebuild the jawbone structure.

Bone Grafting Procedure –

Bone grafting in dental treatments is a common and essential procedure when preparing for bone grafting dental implants. Here’s how the process typically works:

  1. Initial Consultation

A dental specialist examines your oral health using X-rays or CT scans to assess bone density and determine the extent of grafting needed.

  1. Anesthesia

Local anesthesia or sedation is administered to ensure you are comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure.

  1. Site Preparation

The gum tissue is gently opened to expose the area of bone loss.

  1. Bone Placement

The bone grafting material—synthetic, autograft (from your own body), allograft (donor bone), or xenograft (animal source)—is placed precisely in the deficient area.

  1. Membrane Coverage (if needed)

A protective membrane may be placed over the graft to enhance healing and prevent soft tissue from interfering.

  1. Suturing

The gum tissue is sutured (stitched) back into place to secure the graft.

  1. Healing & Integration

The healing process, known as osseointegration, takes 3 to 6 months. During this time, the graft fuses with your existing bone to form a solid foundation for a dental implant.

  1. Follow-Up & Implant Placement

Once healed, your dentist will evaluate the site and proceed with the dental implant placement if the bone has integrated successfully.
