Root Canals

What is Root Canal Therapy?

The inner pulp of your tooth contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. If this pulp becomes infected due to deep decay, trauma, or cracks in the tooth, you may experience significant pain and sensitivity. Root canal therapy removes this infected pulp, cleans the inside of the tooth, and seals it to prevent further infection. This preserves the tooth structure and allows it to function normally.

Root Canal at Elite Dental Tours

At Elite Dental Tours , we prioritize your comfort throughout your root canal treatment. Here’s what you can expect:

Consultation & X-rays: We will discuss your symptoms and perform a thorough examination with X-rays to diagnose the cause of your tooth pain.

Local Anesthesia: We will administer local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth, ensuring a comfortable procedure.

Tooth Access and Pulp Removal: The dentist will create a small opening in the tooth to access the infected pulp and remove it carefully.

Canal Cleaning and Disinfection: The inside of the tooth (canals) will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to eliminate any remaining bacteria.

Canal Filling and Sealing: The canals will be filled with a special material to prevent further infection.

Crown Placement (Optional): In some cases, a dental crown may be recommended to strengthen the tooth and restore its full functionality.

Recovery and Follow-up: We will provide detailed instructions for post-operative care and schedule a follow-up appointment to monitor the healing process.

Root Canal Procedure: Step-by-Step Guide

Here’s how a standard root canal procedure is performed:

Step 1: Dental Examination & X-Ray

Your dentist examines the tooth and takes X-rays to assess the extent of damage and identify the root canals that require treatment.

Step 2: Anesthesia

Local anesthesia is applied to numb the affected tooth and surrounding area, ensuring a pain-free experience.

Step 3: Access Opening

A small opening is made in the crown of the tooth to access the infected or dead pulp tissue inside.

Step 4: Pulp Removal

The infected pulp is carefully removed from the root canals using special dental instruments.

Step 5: Cleaning & Disinfection

The root canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to eliminate bacteria and prevent future infection.

Step 6: Filling the Canals

The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material (usually gutta-percha) and sealed to prevent reinfection.

Step 7: Final Restoration

A temporary or permanent filling is placed. In many cases, a dental crown is recommended to fully restore the tooth’s strength and function.

Root Canal Treatment Recovery

Recovery after a root canal treatment is usually smooth, with mild discomfort that subsides within a few days. Patients are advised to avoid chewing on the treated tooth until it’s fully restored with a crown.

With proper care, a root canal can last for many years, even a lifetime for some patients. Regular dental checkups and maintaining good oral hygiene are crucial for the long-term success of a root canal.
Yes, anesthesia is typically used during a root canal to ensure your comfort. Local anesthesia numbs the area around the tooth, and sedation dentistry can help you relax during the procedure.
Whenever possible, saving your natural tooth is preferred. Root canal therapy removes the infected pulp and preserves the tooth structure, while extraction removes the entire tooth. Root canals can prevent the need for extractions and their associated complications like bone loss and the need for replacements.
In some cases, extraction may be the only option. However, if possible, saving your natural tooth is preferred. Your dentist will discuss the best course of action based on the severity of the infection and the condition of the tooth.
